I remember in 2010 when I decided to do the “The Big Chop” and go natural. The Big Chop is pretty much a process that every frustrated woman has to go through when she decides to stop perming her hair. I was that Woman 14 years ago! The process pretty much lives up to the term. You literally chop all your hair off and start growing it back naturally. The order was simple, but so good. “Very light coffee with 2 sugars”, my Mother Gladys Escobosa would say. She loved coffee and quite frankly could have a cup anytime! Coffee has always been a grand staple in my home growing up. I remember visiting my grandmother’s house every Sunday and the first thing that came out of her kitchen was a huge Aluminum Coffee Maker. The Coffee Maker was filled to the brim and the aroma filled the whole apartment. It was the fuel that Abuela and the rest of the Adults in the family needed to get the conversation started. The conversations lasted for hours and ended with incredible commentary and memories.
They spoke very loudly over each other and sipped plenty of coffee. Everyone was in bliss as they laughed and cried about various experiences that all originated in the Dominican Republic. Perhaps this is why the aroma of my Grandma’s home was unforgettable and quite difficult to replicate.
Abuela’s house is where my love for coffee started. Unfortunately, due to her passing, those days do not exist anymore. I spent the majority of my adulthood trying to capture that aroma once again; that true scent of home. Unsuccessful in my pursuit, I settled for commercial coffee brands. Convincing myself that this was the best the Industry had to offer. Sadly, it never compared to Grandma. However, this changed once I was introduced to Cafe Carrizal.

This year I was invited to cover the NYC Coffee Festival and there was a booth that caught my eye immediately. Maybe it was seeing my country’s flag or just the warm and welcoming energy of the crew.

Whatever it was… It caused me to stop in my tracks. I had a sample and was captivated by the taste. This coffee transformed the sensations of my taste buds immediately. For a brief moment, I was back in Abuela’s living room. I heard laughter and remembered the stories shared. I was determined to connect with the brand, I had never tasted anything that created so much nostalgia in my soul.

Now back to the Coffee! Cafe Carrizal originated in the Dominican Republic and has been a staple in the community for years. This Coffee is cultivated in the central mountain region of the Dominican Republic. What I love most about Cafe Carrizal is that your purchase goes beyond supporting a brand you provide jobs in a rural community and contribute to education across the Dominican Republic.

Cafe Carrizal also takes care of their farmers who are responsible for making this Coffee so tasty! The brand focuses on establishing healthy relationships between farmers and the environment by providing health insurance and materials to farmers in the region.

The farmers who founded this brand are 4th and 5th generation descendants of coffee farmers Antonio Rodriguez and his son Arturo. (picture seen above) They founded the village of Carrizal in this region 120 years ago.
Today the family lives on the same plot of land where the first house in Carrizal was built. They have been involved in nonprofit work in their community since 2008. Since then, they have built aqueducts for clean water, organized trash pickups, held yearly environmental education camps for youth, built homes and donated food and medicine to members of their community.
5 percent of the the company’s profits go to an educational program that has been sponsored by the Dominican Minister of Education, with the goal of decreasing illiteracy across the country.
Although those days in Abuela’s living room are gone. I am so thankful for brands such as Cafe Carrizal that take my heart back to the better days Every cup I make fills my home with the same aroma from Abuela’s house and I feel her presence every time I take a sip! This is by far the best coffee I have ever tasted. Thank You Cafe Carrizal!

Anybody who knows me can tell you I am absolutely obsessed with Coffee. This is why every year around October I eagerly prepare my taste buds for the New York City Coffee Festival. This year me and about 9k Coffee lovers had the chance to check out the anticipated event held at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
From Friday, October 6th to Sunday, October 8th the space was packed with Coffee novices who had a chance to sample delicious lattes, cold brews, chai teas, matcha, chocolate, spirits, and from various exhibitors including Smirnoff, Parlor Coffee, Blueberry Roasters, ansa, Joe Coffee, Blank Street, Rishi Tea, Matcha Direct, De’Longh. I was glad that I wore comfortable shoes because there were three whole floors of exhibitors, experiences, and events to explore.
100% of profits from the New York Coffee Festival are donated to Project Waterfall. Since 2011 Project Waterfall has raised over $2 million and changed more than 80,00 lives in coffee-growing communities in Nicaragua, Rwanda, Tanzania, Vietnam, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. This year’s event raised more than $31k in support of their mission who in partnership with NYC-based Charity:Water continues to help deliver life changing water projects in coffee growing regions.

I LOVE THIS COFFEE! this was by far my favorite from the festival! It felt so good to connect to my Dominican roots! Café Carrizal’s coffee beans grow alongside a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and you can definitely taste in every sip!

I was happy to see the crew from Tezumi Tea. It was great to see so many people interested in Japanese tea. I had a few samples and it was extremely tasty!

The Mid-Autumn festival is here! (Well actually it just left lol). The 2023 Mid-Autumn holiday started on Sep. 29 and lasted until Oct. 6. I got to celebrate the festival with great food at Dim Sum Palace. At first I was a bit skeptical considering that the restaurant was hosting a dinner that exclusively served duck. (Where’s the Chicken?!)
The restaurants lighting is very bright and is sure to provide an instant mood boost to all! There is plenty of room to sit and wall décor to admire.
The food was delicious the menu was prefixed for all guests. We started out with the appetizers that consisted of Egg Rolls accompanied by savory Duck Dumplings.
After the Appetizers it was time for the main course! The Peking Duck was savory and satisfying. The meat was well done with just the right amount of crisp. I also enjoyed the sweet glaze over the meat.
The Duck was accompanied by wrappers. These wrappers were a nice touch and went really well with the meat. I enjoyed stuffing the meat into the wrappers It was like having a mini Duck Taco!
Overall I was satisfied with the service and the food provided by Dim Sum Palace. I would definitely go visit again. The price points are pretty decent. This place is an ideal for a date night or just hanging with your loved ones.
During Fashion Week, Fashion Designer Minh Le debuted her Spring/Summer 2024 Line at Paul’s Cocktail Lounge (also known as Paul’s Baby Grand) in The Roxy Hotel. I had a chance to experience all the glam and even had chance to meet the designer!
